Safer Handling

Keeping your tires in contact with the road can help you avoid a serious accident. The steering and suspension systems in your car do that and are engineered to provide the most accurate handling possible in various conditions. Worn or damaged parts in these systems can cause the tires to slide or bounce as you drive, the steering to pull to one side, your car to wander or lose control and the tires to wear much faster than normal.

Accidents, bumping into a curb, hitting a pothole or having worn parts can cause problems in these systems. See Tire Maintenance at www.TireWorldinc.com/tips for more on alignment and tire wear.

In addition to safety, these systems contribute to your comfort and help to reduce fatigue from driving. They smooth the bumps and jerks of the road into a more even, gliding motion for passengers.

Early cars needed only a handle, called a "tiller," to steer as the majority of weight, including the engine, was over the rear axle. Many innovative advances, including the steering wheel, have provided us with the more responsive, safer, faster cars that we enjoy today.

Did you know that, in a turn, your front wheels do not point in the same direction? One wheel is making a larger arc than the other is, necessitating precise adjustments for proper handling.

Bring your vehicle in to Tire World to be inspected, lubricated or, when needed, aligned or repaired if

  • Your steering feels loose or less responsive,
  •

  • You hear noises while turning,
  •

  • You need to hold your steering wheel to the right or left to keep the car going in a straight line or your car pulls to either side while braking,
  •

  • Your vehicle "rides like a truck" or continues to bounce longer than normal,
  •

  • Your vehicle's handling has deteriorated or it leans hard on curves or corners. Check your shocks or struts periodically for leakage. These suspension system parts are located behind each wheel,
  •

  • You notice vibrations in the steering wheel or in any part of the vehicle. A vibrating or pulsing brake pedal during braking may simply mean your brakes are worn but should be looked into as well.
  • An alignment check after a season of slippery road conditions is a good idea. Trust Tire World to get the job done correctly if repairs are needed.
