Tire Maintenance

Check tire pressure often. Tire World recommends that you inflate your tire to the pressure listed on your driver’s side door or door pillar. Tires should be checked cold, before driving on them.

We will be more than happy to do this at no cost at any of our 5 convenient locations.

Improper inflation is very dangerous as it makes the handling of your vehicle less stable. It also causes premature tire wear, as you can see in these illustrations.

With under-inflated tires, the inner and outer edges wear more quickly. With over-inflated tires, the center of the tire wears faster.

Rub your hand along the tire tread in one direction (forward or backward) and then in the other.

Tread that feels sharp in one direction and smooth in the other or that has high and low spots has a condition known as cupping, which normally occurs because the tires are not being rotated often enough.

Cupping can also be caused by alignment problems.

Tire world recommends that you rotate Front-wheel, All-wheel, and Four-wheel drive car and truck tires every 3000 miles. These vehicles are very hard on the front tires. The tires on rear wheel drive cars and trucks should be rotated every 5000 miles.

Potholes, bumping a curb, an accident or just worn steering and suspension parts can cause alignment problems.

There are four basic alignment angle problems.

* Toe out (the tires are pointing out).
* Toe in (the tires are pointing in).

Either of these conditions can cause the tires to slide
as you drive and will cause tires to wear out prematurely.

* The next alignment angle is Camber.

This basically means is the tire standing up straight.

* Negative camber means the top of the tire is leaning in.
* Positive camber means the top of the tire is leaning out.

* The last alignment angle is caster.

Caster does not affect tire wear but it can cause
steering to pull to one side or the other.
